Logging was Seattle’s first major industry but by the late 19th century Seattle had become a commercial and shipbuilding center the main transport and supply point for miners during the Klondike Gold Rush. Seattle is now home to many tech companies including Mircosoft, Amazon and others as well as a thriving biotech industry.
The summers in Seattle are typically beautiful with average high’s in the upper 70’s to low 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s or low 60’s. May through early July tend to be more overcast and rainy than later in the cruise ship season.
